This Year's Model Updates:

More power for the 4.7-liter V8 and three new trim levels (SE, Sport and Overland) are on tap for this year. Also, several important safety and convenience options such as side curtain airbags, power-adjustable pedals, a tire-pressure monitoring system and automatic windshield wipers debut this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

  • Dont Buy It !!!!!! - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought a 2000 JGC Laredo with all the options. MSRP $32,500. I have resurfaced the rotors twice and then replaced them, replaced fuel pump, 2 new batteries, I have a constant wind noise comming through the front passenger window. I also have an annoying popping noise that comes from the steering column everytime I put pressure on it. I wish I could get rid of this thing ASAP, only I am carrying $10,000 in negative equity due to the poor resale value!!!! Get a HONDA, ACURA, TOYOTA, or NISSAN!

  • Will my Jeep make it???? - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This jeep is my first SUV, and my first "American" car in years. Having an SUV has been so helpful during the winter. Lately I feel as if the car is starting to fall apart. At 26,000 miles the transmission slips when cold; service has not resolved the problem. When I brought it in for the last service they found a number of items wrong with the car and kept the car all day. Ive always driven my Hondas and Toyotas over 100,000 miles; I certainly dont have the confidence in this vehicles reliability since Im already having major mechanical problems. Ill never go without an SUV again, will stick to the imports though.

  • Trade in or Nurse along?!? - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my Jeep brand new and now at 108K, its sitting at the dealership with a $2300 estimate. Just spent $800 one month ago. It was fine (except for the brake thing and the fuel injector issues) until it flipped 90K, ok maybe not so fine. List of repairs done: brakes 4 times - same warping rotor issue under class action lawsuit, starter, radiator, one ds window motor, hood shocks, 2 fuel injectors, battery. Now needs: tires, rear shocks, steering column bearing, rear axle seals & bearings, heater core, rear hatch shocks. Complaints: frequent trouble dis- engaging from 4WD, roof paint bubbled early, pathetic GAS MILEAGE!!

  • Theres Better Out There - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought this 8-cyl model as a lease, intending to keep it for 200K+ miles. Routine maintenance, no problems except rear rotors until 95K miles. Then front end going out (typical for jeep, due to BAD design flaw) and 4WD biting the dust... plus I had to put in new front rotors and front hub assemblies. I am terribly disappointed in the lack of high-mile dependability of this vehicle; my Mustang was better! No wonder the power train warranty is only to 70K. After reading other reviews I am now heading to a Nissan dealer; too much $$$ to spend on a vehicle with 97K miles. Owners, look out for that "magic" 100+/-K miles on the odometer, youll be in for trouble I guarantee it!

  • Would buy another one! - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought this vehicle new and have loved every day of it. If your main concern is great gas mileage you dont need an SUV, but if you want to do any off roading you want a Jeep. On road manners are great and it is a lot of fun to drive. I have the 4.0 I6 which is nothing but reliable. Select Trac will go anywhere. If you are reading this you are probably looking for a used vehicle. Dont be afraid of these. Hints: Look for one with the 7/70 powertrain warranty remaining. Also, service can be okay or a nightmare depending on the dealership.

  • I LOVE MY JEEP! - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep was the only thing on the dealers lot that appealed to me. I went in looking to purchase a new car and feel in love with the used jeep! It has never left me any where and runs great plus I love the way it looks. The inside is a little plain and simple but over all its an awesome car. I feel safe in it. The only down fall is the gas mileage but that is the price you pay driving as SUV! All-in-all I am a very satisfied Jeep owner and dont see myself ever purchasing anything other that a jeep.

  • Expected better - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Im seeing a lot of things on these reviews that Ive experienced myself. Bought new in 2002 and have had problems with rotors/brakes too. Also the dual zone climate control door went bad (expensive to fix). Also hood struts went bad as well as the gas cap (youll know when your engine light comes on)...Ive seen these 2 problems a lot on reviews. Not sure the seat leather is actually leather - after a few years it gets a bit plastic-y. Also needs more leg room for the driver (Im 62"). Overall its not bad, but considering it sold for about $38k new I expected much better for my money.

  • Brake issues - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is the second and last Jeep I will ever purchase. I love Jeeps, but Chrysler does not love their customers, they have brake rotor issues. First brake job at 18,000 miles (warranty). Second at 28,000 "good will" warranty; we paid the labor! Third is now at 38,000 miles, they claim they dont have any brake problems. Im here to warn you, they do have brake problems and it is expensive! Nissan Pathfinder here I come.
